BASPOLO

As the population of Uthana is 80% male, Uthanians love to do sports. And they love being together so they invented a whole new sport.

The sport is called ‘baspolo’. It’s a combination of basketball and water polo. As they love being with each other, of course baspolo is a team sport. You play it in a team of 4 people. Polobas was created because of the gigantic sea Uthana has. Most of the country is layed by the sea, so there they can play polobas. Of course you can also play it in lakes and private pools.

What are the rules?

You need to pass the ball to each team member 2 times before you can score. This encourages team spirit and everyone gets to play at the same time. Also, before the last guy who gets the ball wants to score, he needs to push the ball under water (which is not that easy) and after that he can try to score. The first team that gets to 30 points wins. And the scores are just like in basketball, 2 points for a normal score and 3 points for a three pointer. The three pointer line is marked with a special tool attached to the pole with the basket. This pole can be placed in the ground anywhere where the players want. The players can also decide if they want to play polobas with just feet and legs in the water, or their whole body (so it’s more difficult)

What’s so special about it?

The fun thing is that you can play baspolo in the water, but also on land. Then it’s just basketball with no water so players can decide which game they want to play. But trust me, Uthanians really love baspolo in the water. It is really a sport where the players can decide how and what they are going to play. Just like the Uthanians love.
